Influencing Skills
Because their role is largely about achieving results through other people, successful business leaders must master the skills required to influence effectively and with integrity. They need to do this up, down and horizontally across their organisation and across an extended network within and outside the firm. This means being aware of their current preferred influencing style, the range of styles available to them, the self awareness and persistence to develop underused influencing styles and the acuity to know when and how to apply a given style.
The model outlined in the download file looks at both push and pull styles of influencing. In our experience push styles are over used by most business leaders to the detriment of pull styles. The point of the model is not to propose that one style is inherently better than any other. Our principle rather is that the most effective business leader is the one with the most choices, that such a choice must be made mindfully and that the correct choice, if indeed there is one, is contingent on the situation.
